My work often employs a mix of printmaking techniques and other technologies, in
fabrication. This results in the production of objects, where physical form or
object-context plays a role in the overall meaning of the work. The art work I am
presenting at the Brooklyn Business and Law Library at Cadman Plaza is one of my
more recent projects entitled Structures of Detention. This edition of photo-silk
screen prints are bound editions of The New York Law Journal. They document
several New York Houses of Detention, as well as Federal Buildings located in
Manhattan and Brooklyn. The art works juxtapose these structures, against a
background of text recording court proceedings and decisions from the 1980's and
90's. There is a dialog established between these pages and the buildings, which
provide an opportunity for social commentary and reflection.

Work by a NYFA (New York Foundation of the Arts) 2003 Fellow which explores
people's leisure time activities.
"This body of digital color prints explores the 'free time' activities of individuals in
social settings. In these works body language and image context join to encapsulate
a feeling for specific social dynamics or cultural phenomena. Other images within the
series play with metaphorical associations of objects or places from private or public
environments. These associations sometimes reflect upon the humor or isolation found
in these settings." RON ROCCO
Rocco was curator of "That Which Remains" at the
Lowe Gallery in 2001, and has shown several of his conceptual, highly original mixed
media pieces at the Guild, including some pieces from his series of silk screened prison
buildings on discarded law journals.

RON ROCCO’s “Work on What Has Been Spoiled” a mixed media piece comprised of cardboard, Plexiglas, photo-etched copper and artificial light, is the exhibition’s most potent piece.
Displayed directly on the floor, the brownish tones of the back-lighted image that covers the central piece of Plexiglas suggests, but does not limit itself to, the dangers of the pursuit of power. The image, which is difficult to decipher, looks like a bald eagle as roadkill. The thick layers of strapped-together, flattened cardboard boxes that frame the image is a stroke of genius, adding to the impermanent feeling of the work.
