Mary Worcester Newell -
Mary studied at the Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio. Following graduation, Worcester Newell entered the world of commercial art, balancing family and work as she raised two children and freelanced in illustration. She continued her career as her children grew and eventually relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she started a successful career painting and illustrating for an impressive list of corporate and personal clients.
Remarried and retired now from that career, Mary is now painting what she selects. Comfortable working in watercolor or oil, Mary comments, “I prefer whichever medium I happen to be working in at the moment. Oils can be more about color and I love the endless possibilities of playing with color.
Although she has never taken the time to enter her work in competitions, one of her clients did enter a project on her behalf and it won the 1987 Ad Federation award for “Best Illustration” nationally.
