Concentrating on elements in the natural world, en plein air painter Thomas Monaghan brings us out into the beauty of the California landscape. Following in a long tradition of California landscape painters, Monaghan transports us from sunlit hills to densely wooded forests with effortless skill and expert technique. “The purpose of the paintings is mostly about particular settings, the reverence toward those places that leave genuine impressions on me.” Monaghan strives to depict the spirit of each location, capturing the mood of the landscape on canvas.
Born in Chicago, Monaghan received his Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communications and his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Northern Illinois. In addition to several private collections, his work is included in many major corporate collections.
