In the years between 1850 and 1940, a new art form was born: the poster. Cheret, Toulouse-Lautrec, Steinlen, Mucha and many of the most important artists of all time eagerly participated in the creation of this new art form. The Ré Collection lithographs are not reproductions of these posters: they are genuine, fine art original lithographs that bring back to life the finest works of the Golden Age of Poster Art (1865-1939) through their detail and expert, time-honored means. Lithographic posters are original works of art drawn by the artist or by the hand of a lithographic draftsman directly onto the printing plate. Ré-created vintage poster lithographs make these high-quality images accessible to the public at affordable prices, so that they can be collected and enjoyed by all lovers of poster art. These fine art re-created posters also have an intrinsic value, since they rescue our history from time’s ravages and serve as a chronicle not only of early advertising, but of technology, style and humor. They are truly beautiful, and serve to remind us of the rarity of the antique originals they represent and preserve. The striking images and unsurpassed artistry of these works transcended their advertising message – they were, in fact, superb art by superb artists, and they have captured the public’s passion for generations.
