Andre Bertounesque
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
André Bertounesque, born in France in 1937, arrived in Canada in 1955. He has maintained his home in Quebec ever since. Although his interest in drawing began as a child, the self-taught artist had numerous other vocations before finally settling down as a painter in 1963. An avid traveler, his first series of paintings focused on the beaches of coastal Florida before concentrating on the distinct aspects of the Canadian landscape.
Bertounesque’s richly painted landscapes are romantic without being sentimental. He balances the serenity of a dream with the radiance of a very tangible summer day. His paintings gently reconcile man with nature, often portraying the effect of natural light on a scene, which would otherwise be overlooked.
Bertounesque has exhibited extensively in both Canada and the U.S.A. His paintings are found in many private and corporate collections such as IBM, Air Canada, Scotia Bank, Imperial Oil and Quevillon Inc.
