BARBARA ZOERN
Barbara Brabec Zoern is a native of a Chicago area suburb and now resides in Austin, Texas. Her interest in art began at a young age however, her desire to paint culminated after she began her career as an interior designer. Computer Aided Drafting promoted technicality, not creativity. The canvas provided an outlet for her artistic inclinations. What followed were simple works of art revealed through spatial proportions and chromatic fields. Ms. Zoern’s design training is apparent through her usage of abstract and architectural techniques. She utilizes basic elements of design such as space, form, line, texture and light, creating visual harmony within each piece of work. Evident in her paintings are Ms. Zoern’s intriguing combinations of shape and color, even when her abstract approaches the real as in her figurative females. A horizontal exhibit of Ms. Zoern’s work can be viewed at the Houston Galleria, where 125 of her painted tables are displayed on the ice skating rink level. Her work can also be seen on various sized canvas, paper, tables and greeting cards. Barbara Zoern’s creative process does not always focus on portraying a particular insightful message. Rather, her informal approach to artistic expression lends to a broad range of interpretation.
