JON ERIC NARUM
Born to artist parents in Piney Point Village, Texas, Jon Eric Narum was the middle child of five children. In addition to having played Pop Warner football, Narum’s other childhood obsessions included drawing, painting and making things - such as model cars. However, it was his parents' love of art that had the most profound affect on his desire for visual self-expression and his eventual career choice. Narum’s love of expansive skies goes back to childhood, as well. “I have one very vivid recollection of riding in the back of our '59 Ford station wagon, along with my family on one of the numerous drives out to my grandfather's house on Lake Travis, near Austin, Texas. I can still recall reclining in the back of that big ol' station wagon, gazing out of the window at the puffy cumulus clouds drifting by and finding great joy in picking out assorted beasts and other surrealistically strange creatures”. Narum currently resides in Austin and is still, admittedly, obsessed with painting in his photorealistic style and making things with his hands. “I still really love exploring the delightful colors, shapes, and moods I experience while painting my sky paintings. Each sky is an intriguing, challenging, and elegant journey for me”. While most of his sky-scapes are of Texas skies, stints in Oklahoma and Kansas have expanded his repertoire and added some Midwestern flavor to the palette.
