DONNA LOFTON
Donna Lofton was born to one of Friendswood, Texas original Quaker families in the early 1950s, at a time when family, church, school and community were still one and the same. Her great-grandparents home, the Perry Home, was destroyed during the devastating hurricane of 1900 and has recently been restored to serve as a museum celebrating the heritage of Friendswood. A Christian world view is a heritage for which I am grateful. One of my most delightful memories is of the week each summer our family spent camping out, along with several other families, on my great-uncle's ranch in Wimberly, Texas. The adults set up camp on an embankment overlooking the Blanco river, and for an entire week we swam, canoed, played games and explored the white rock riverbed. When Sunday morning came, we held a worship service by the river surrounded by nature. Plein air painting, or painting directly from nature in the outdoors is, today, one of my favorite activities, and experiences such as these surely laid the ground work for my enjoyment of and reverence for nature. Donna graduated from Sam Houston State University in Hunstville, Texas with a BFA in graphic design. She was employed as a graphic designer and illustrator for the University of Texas Medical Branch and the Ray Hicks Advertising Agency before combining freelancing with a return to her love of painting. Throughout the 80's and 90's she studied with numerous painters, and has been most influenced by internationally known plein air painter, Kevin MacPhersan. Donna resides in Marble Falls, Texas with her husband and two children.
