JASPER
Hugh Jasper was born in Reedville, Texas in 1968 and is a self-taught artist. He equates the process of working through his abstract paintings with that of navigating a foreign city for the first time without a map. The experience of simultaneously exploring and creating is central to Hugh Jasper's work. Jasper was trained as an interior/stage set designer. The evolution from his concept to a workable design is a graphic art in the form of drawn plans, sections, and elevations. Jasper's inspiration as a painter stems directly from this form of graphic art. His compositions of complementary colors and positive/negative fields allude to the haphazard merriment of a children's playground. Altogether, the paintings resonate of a chord-struck harmony.
