SEAN JACOBS
Sean Jacobs was born in San Francisco, California. As a child, he recalls painting by numbers with his sister, and always being better at it than she, despite the fact that she was two years older than he was. It became a sort of competition between them, and soon escalated into something more. Sean's mother always bragged about his artistic talent and encouraged him to excel in painting and drawing. Jacobs went on to study painting through college at a Southern California university. While there, he studied many artists and found that he is most influenced by the art of Giacometti, David Hockney, Larry Rivers and Man Ray. Sean's art expresses the Southern California lifestyle - an uninhibited explosion of freedom and spirit. His focus on abstracts is a direct representation of his personality. He reaches from every aspect of life to incorporate into his paintings. His palette is different from those of other artists who share his studio. He prefers to use more natural colors that blend well together. "Colors found in nature are most pleasing to me," he says. This is apparent with his contemporary paintings that convey a sense of serenity and calm through chaotic precision and the colors he chooses. This type of contradiction works well for Sean and has allowed him to create a painting style like no other.
