Violets

ProfileThis is a lovely study in light and texture. The leaf surfaces and weave of the basket are particularly well done. The off-center composition works very well here with the strong diagonals of the shadow at left and the stems in the foreground.
ProfileThis painting makes me kinda sad. But it has realism about it. The light shades make it even more interesting and intriguing. Nice work

Turnberry, The 10th Hole...

ProfileIt takes skill to present a seemingly simple scene with such complexity of mark-making. The detailing in the clouds and weeds is exquisite. Nice to see a lighthouse scene where the lighthouse itself is almost an afterthought!
ProfileThe subtle shading helps show the contour of the green without making the piece too monochromatic. This is a truly lovely landscape with a lot of complexity: the water, ground, and sky all have their own shifting patterns and personality.
ProfileI like the view on this picture, it expresses some kind of peaceful feeling. Would like to see it in the whole size.

The Range

ProfileThis piece really captures the energy of the range -- mid-swing or just leaning and waiting, and the spectators quiet in one corner. Just enough detail to bring it alive, but the focus stays on action and inaction. Very nice work.
ProfileI like the slightly stretched look of the golfers in this, particularly the man on the left caught mid-swing; it nicely emphasizes both the energy of the motion and the fragility of the human figure executing it. Tranquility

ProfileI love how you introduced modern geometry and color schemes into a scene pulled straight from the Middle Ages. Your use of color is really quite striking in that you've managed to create an interesting scene with several distinct parts using only a few colors.
ProfileThere's such an enjoyable interplay of elements in this piece, particularly the use of color and composition and the softening of geometric shapes. One can immediately see parallels with Picasso's famous works, as well as a touch of Matisse-like flattened perspective, even (perhaps) a touch of Romar...

ProfileThis landscape showcases an incredible attention to detail, from the light catching on the flutist's hair to the texture of the geese's feathers. Even each tree in the background has a different branch spread and twists in the trunk, making each unique. This print is teeming with life.

Proud Moment

ProfileThis is nice portrait, i like the straight lines of the face and shadow lines. By focus being only on a face i understand that this is what is important here. Anyhow, great job.
ProfileI really like the quality of mark-making in this piece. Bold strokes, simple colors, and more detail in the face as the focal point. The movement of the hair and fringe is also really effective.

ProfileThis painting style applied to a mountain landscape transforms the image. It's reminiscent of a topographic map or the strata of millennia of rock layers. Somehow the effect both flattens the image and heightens the multilayered textures of the land. Really interesting work.

ProfileThe detail given to the horse is greater than that given to any other part of the work, including the rider. This really makes the horse pop out as the focus of the piece, but I personally find the effect to be a bit surreal, which doesn't seem to have been the intention.

ProfileVery colorful work, looks like see world. There are many interesting details, and good use of imagination.
ProfileThis work uses bold, almost neon, colors to emphasize the lines and shapes of this landscape. What an interesting way to convey the vibrant life of the Southwest, which can sometimes appear monochromatic or dully colored to the casual observer.

The Millinery Shop

ProfileThe subject is classic, and the medium seems to freeze it in time. The contrast in textures between the canvas awning, greenery, and bricks is handled well in order to create interest. The emptiness and lifelessness of the image gives it a sense of pathos as well. . .
ProfileThis is a subtle piece, but one that makes you look closely at the details. The degree of realism is impeccable. I especially like how the texture of the canopy comes alive.
ProfileLooks nice, lovely work of black and white colors. Very classic painting. Really adorable, won't add a bit to it, looks perfect as it is.

The Best Time of the Day...

ProfileI'm not sure whether the "best time of day" indicated in the title is early morning or late evening, but either way it makes a compelling scene. ProfileYou've managed to create a nostalgic scene without going overboard on the pathos. The soft light helps place the scene without overwhelming it with dramatism. ProfileThis could be a scene taken straight out of my childhood on the family farm. You caught the spirit of it exactly -- the oversized mud boots the children are wearing are the perfect touch.

ProfileAside from the realism, which is particularly amazing in the shoulder and in the texture of the skin, this piece has a powerful emotional component. The overwhelming senses of loneliness of loss permeate the work. Beautifully done.
ProfileThis picture brings some kind of lonely feeling, but the way it is painted is incredible. Man's hand are looking so real, every single line in them is real. Interesting context, nice touch with a background, good work.
ProfileExquisite realism here--the hands and planes of the back are just right. You also did a lovely job with skin tone, and the gray background highlights that. There is some implied pathos here that makes this image very engaging.

Heavenly Jerusalem

ProfileThe floating city is a scene straight from the fairy tales of many different cultures. I love the mirage-like quality you gave Heaven-Jerusalem, which I feel captures much of the spiritual aspect the city has for many people. Beautiful work.
ProfileThis is very nice idea, straight from fairytale but still nice, to connect Heaven and Jerusalem in such a way. I love all those rich details, and all that soft colors on the background. Nice work.

ProfileSo much energy is captured in this composition, it really lives up to its title. In particular, the horse at far right almost seems out of control in its frenzied galloping. Nice choice to put the viewer right in the path of the stampede!
ProfileThe detail put forth into distinguishing each horse gives this a sense of realism that would have been impossible to capture otherwise. At the same time, you've overlapped the sillhouettes of each animal to give the herd a mob-like quality -- you can just tell that they're panicked and uncontrolled.

Antique Roses

ProfileInteresting style, it seems like the vase and flowers are out of focus, this element makes this picture very soft and delicate. Nice color effect, good job.
ProfileThe delicate detailing on the vase and teacup is my favorite aspect of this piece. There's also something touching about the use of the same flower on the lady's hat as the ones in the vase. The blooms fairly burst off the canvas.
