Blues Player

ProfileI wish this image were larger so that I could really enjoy all the details of the color and line here. Compositionally, the colorful explosive swirls in the background do a lot to offset the static placement of the guitarist. Something about this piece reminds me of the work of Romare Bearden.  9/26/2012
ProfileAmazing colors! I love how the swirling, dynamic background suggests the music coming from the guitar. You handled the contrast between the musician and the bright background very well, not resorting to using murky colors to differentiate the subject from the bold background.

ProfileThe transparency brings real lightness into the composition. The unfinished style makes the woman's face much more of a focus, while the layering adds luminosity.  8/12/2014
ProfileInteresting style, i see the idea was to make focus on a lady,so it means there is must be some story behind it. Although painting looks like it haven't been finished yet, because of a white color of a floor, but maybe this is only another point of this painting.   10/17/2012

Sweetwater Glade

ProfileBeautiful piece, Joseph. I'm not blessed with artistic talent myself but have recently began delving into the wonderful world of digital photography, which for me, is as close as I'll ever come to producing artwork. Feel free to drop by my personal site at http://australialandscapephotography.com.au  4/18/2013
ProfileI love how the artist has drawn attention to all the different types of texture in this scene, which really brings it to life. Somehow the trees are in sharp focus despite the slight abstraction of many other elements in the image. Very nice composition.  10/8/2012
ProfileThis is a very soothing piece. The clouds mirroring the shape of the treeline is an interesting touch, a way of introducing a sense of parallel lines without using standard geometry.   9/25/2012

Ladies Man

ProfileYour style are really something. This picture having many different meaning, as i see it. And all thanks to removing focus from some charactors. Very interesting piece
ProfileThis piece definitely toys with my expectations. At first glance, it looked like a simple return to classic scenes, but it's actually far more complex. The sketchy quality of the dress and semi-transparent figures give it an unsettling surreal touch -- it's not at all what is expected!

ProfileLove the use of color and vivid contrast that instead of dividing brings the entire painting together setting the mood by bringing out warmth and approachability of the work. Beautifully done.  8/14/2014
ProfileGood choice of colors. While they're too bright and sharp to look realistic, they're close enough to reality not go make this piece seem surreal. ProfileIt takes skill to present a seemingly simple scene with such complexity of mark-making. The detailing in the clouds and weeds is exquisite. Nice to see a lighthouse scene where the lighthouse itself is almost an afterthought!  9/26/2012
ProfileThe subtle shading helps show the contour of the green without making the piece too monochromatic. This is a truly lovely landscape with a lot of complexity: the water, ground, and sky all have their own shifting patterns and personality.

The Millinery Shop

ProfileThe subject is classic, and the medium seems to freeze it in time. The contrast in textures between the canvas awning, greenery, and bricks is handled well in order to create interest. The emptiness and lifelessness of the image gives it a sense of pathos as well. . .  10/16/2012
ProfileThis is a subtle piece, but one that makes you look closely at the details. The degree of realism is impeccable. I especially like how the texture of the canopy comes alive.
