As an artist, Maura has strong ties to the Southwest. Maura is a third generation Colorado native, with her roots coming from Colorado pioneers who settled in the San Luis Valley. Her childhood was filled with stories of her ancestors arriving in the Valley in covered wagons, working the gold mines, and her Native American heritage.Maura's Trilogy of Life, featuring "Waiting", "Watching", and "Remembering", was sparked by her interest in her Native American heritage. This began with her paternal great-grandmother, of the Osage tribe, who has a verbal history within her family, but due to being removed from the reservation as a child and subsequently Anglicized, the facts of her tribal life were lost in history. In these works, Maura strives to show the patient strength, hope, and pain that these people carried on the tragic road to modernity that they were forced to tread. Maura's newest piece is Our Lady of Peace, this work showcases her attention to detail and brings out her understanding of artistic form. Maura is proud to be associated with the Art Divas Gallery (www.artdivasgallery.com) in Taos, NM. If you are in Taos please stop the Gallery located at 208 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte to view her work.
