'Gilded Torso': The symbolic nature of gilding is associated with ideas of: pressiousness, objects and ideas of high social value and the ideal. Indeed since the advent of the study of the arts, one of the primary artistic concerns have been the ideal vs. real, as related to portraying a self image. The juxtoposition of the two when seen within the same frame of reference are often jolting as whitness to the great distance between the two. While the gilded figure presents with a sense of strength and perfection of form, the other is at rest grasping a walking cane, even the eye glasses worn are further evidence of frailty of the figure as typically seen. Though somewhat cliched, this sort of antithisis remains a quintessential center of artistic pursuit.

A native of Baltimore, MD, Ive made N.Y.C. my home for more than half my life. I occupy a space between a world as it is, and one cloaked in personal aspirings of a world where the tension fraught relationship between Nature & humanity may evolve to one guided more by long-term possibilities of preservation, rather than a short-sighted possibility of profit. Contrasts of Nature & humanity often join forces in ways that are prophetic as to the conceptual gulf separating the two. These tensions are primary to my efforts at creating a visual discourse, one where what is, is matrix to possibilities of what might be. Visual formalities, and narrative content are not mutually exclusive, but form an osmotic linking of the two. While Nature & humanity form concerns primary to this presentation of works, some embrace subject matter beyond such issues.

Profile I love this photograph! I love the balance that is presented. The man on the left is turned at the same angle as the mannequin's body in the shop window. Furthermore, I like to interpret the photograph as society's constant obsession with perfect form as depicted by the mannequin. The man on the lef...
