He began his formal training at the Museum of Modern Art and De Young in San Francisco at the age of five. While completing his education at San Francisco Art Institute and California College of Arts and Crafts, Peter and his friends built a light show company which played the Fillmore and the Avalon Ballrooms. In the late 1960's, Peter set out looking for soul in primal culture. His travels took him through Europe, Northern and Central Africa, the Caribbean and across the United States. Peter then incorporated elements of these diverse and varying cultures into his own work. Peter Kitchell shows consistently at several galleries and his works are included in the corporate collections of AT&T, Dean Witter & Co., ITEL, Stanford University, Bank of America and the IBM Corporation. |
