pure W&N watercolor on arches 300
The rainy autumn Alentejo impression

Jacek Krenz paints watercolour landscapes and portraits. He has combined careers both in arts and architecture as a professor of architecture at the Gdansk University of Technology, Poland and Universidade da Beira Interior Covilha, Portugal Member of the Polish Watercolor Society....the fascinating thing about watercolour painting is the search for balance between the intention of the artist and the alchemy of the process when paint is touching the paper. To explore this alchemy and experience the thrill of unexpected results is what I like most about painting. It is only me and the brush, water and colours to negotiate with the nature of reality and the nature of the mind.Exhibitions:Arte e Gnero. He not only devotes himself to this passion, but also encourages others to follow in his footsteps. Thanks to him, every year a number of his friends spend time together in the open air with brushes and paints in their hands, ready to paint. The Watercolours of Jacek Krenz are not impersonal photographical renderings of a subject, but a commentary confirming his ability to get deeply in touch with the beauty of things. His smaller size watercolours are especially charming, often composed of a few brisk touches of wet brush, as if put purely accidentally to paper. On the contrary, his technique is very advanced indeed, despite his claims for spontaneity as his artistic credo. It is obvious that as an artist he knows much about the detail of this specific technique and has managed to build his wide knowledge on years of experience.Apart from freely flowing patches of well balanced and cleverly combined contradictory colours, he uses with equal fluency other techniques, like rhythmical repetitions of quick touches of brush or wet-in / wet-out of colour. He knows well how to use a half-dry brush or how to mix and combine several of those techniques resulting in unexpected experiments where watercolour paint acquires intensity and diversity of expression. His watercolours attract attention with their dynamics, courage and great sensitivity, each and everyone being a sign of his openness towards the outside world, reflecting an imposing versatility of this talented artist and architect, as well as revealing a sensitive man.Czeslaw TumielewiczProfessor of Gdask Academy of Fine Art, Poland

Profile Dear David, I just came across your comment and was overwhelmed. The compliment from an Englishman mentioning Turner is more than I could have expected. And Klee one of my favourite, unreachable masters. Thank you so much.
Profile I have long admired the simplicity and yet complexity of your work. It is just as hard emptying a scene as it is filling it and your waterfolour technique is masterful in this regard. I see aspects of Turner in such works of yours, but expressed in the colours of Paul Klee's wonderful N Arfican dese...
