MICHAEL JOSEPH Born in the industrial town of Methuen, Massachusetts in 1962, Michael Josephs passion photography began as a child watching his father make images reappear almost magically with his Polaroid camera. Growing up in rural Southington, Connecticut as a curious and creative individual, with New York City an hours train ride away, Joseph spent endless days nurturing his interest. This place known as a canyon of dreams was greeted with a respect for what was fascinatingly being accomplished by human minds and hands. The skyscrapers and structures were identified as works of amazement in a land of infinite possibilities. Today he has traveled to all 48 contiguous united states, many international cities, and continues to make interesting photographs otherwise gone unnoticed. He is praised for his ability to present a combination of style and grace with a sense of drama from an otherwise barren, cold, and isolated landscape of concrete and steel. His careful blend of creativity and precision has been compared to the compelling images of the contemporary Constructivism, and Bauhaus. Joseph reveals a moment in time where lines, shapes, and shadows converge as one, composing a sticking art form of its own. There is an unexpected joy of discovery of landmarks and locations from throughout the city from Central Park, East and West Sides, Midtown, and Wall Street, as never seen before. The excitement of Times Square at night, the Chrysler Building and the Brooklyn Bridge in pure architectural form, St Patricks Cathedral and Rockefeller Center evokes classical majesty. Josephs work has appeared in many solo exhibitions throughout the country, and has been honored in a number of juried art shows. His photographs can be found in the collection of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Bass Museum of Art, New York City Fire Museum, and Kansas Museum of History. As well as numerous corporate collections, including the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Crowne Plaza Hotel and Resorts, S & H Equities, H. Lee Moffit Cancer Center, and in the private collections of Tony Bennett and Rudolph Giuliani. |
